As you enter the Old West exhibit, you’ll walk back in time to an era before Gilbert was founded.

Imagine the 19th Century pioneers as they travelled across our harsh desert landscape at a speed of about 15 miles a day...with no air conditioning! The Conestoga wagon, like the full size replica we have on display here, was cleverly built with a floor that curved upward to prevent the contents from tipping and shifting.

A taste of the old west!

Take a look at a cowboy’s bunk room and a typical sheepherder’s camp; inspect a variety of old western saddles and lots of authentic tools that the pioneers used to explore the West and get a cute picture of the kids in a cowboy get-up! Kids can also try their hand at seeing how much would actually fit in a covered wagon.

Look up above and you’ll see a number of trophies from Gilbert’s early hunters as well as beautifully crafted Native American artwork and tapestries adorning the walls.
